I took a whirlwind trip to DFW this weekend for a concert that was rescheduled. The Avett Brothers were supposed to play Dallas in April, but due to the birth of a child they had to issue rainchecks for a few months later... in the middle of baseball playoffs.
All of Dallas was buzzing with Rangers fever. Even Central Market got in on the action with this white cheddar cheese wheel.
It turned out that the concert was next door to a sports bar, so Svajda and I headed over early to grab dinner and catch the beginning of the ALCS game 6.
We got to enjoy all the way through the 9-run third inning before heading into the show.
My favorite thing about concerts is the people watching. What exactly prompted these girls to think that wearing identical purple and black plaid baby doll dresses with pixie ponytails and pigtails was a good idea??
I had never heard of the opener before, but the David Mayfield Parade brought enough entertainment for me to occasionally look up from staring at the game on my phone. And Mr. Mayfield himself somehow perfectly balanced a Zach Galifianakis-esque comedy persona and a folksy musician one.
Among other fantastic things that happened throughout the night, my cell phone battery lasted long enough for me to make it through the end of the game, a spectacular rout that sends the Rangers to their second straight world series!!
We capped off a fantastic night with an always-stellar performance, captured here in a not-so-stellar phone pic.
